Understanding Why Skin Cancer Patients Are Skyrocketing
November 20, 2009
Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer has been reported with nearly 1 million new cases a year. However, the good news is that the disease is curable and that there may be many steps they take to prevent skin cancer. Skin cancer is also called the formation of the skin and the three most common forms of basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and melanoma are.
The disease is caused by excessive ultraviolet radiation. This means that people seeking employment and other routines which have all day outdoors, make sure that respect, the proposals to prevent skin cancer. What do you know you care? Doctors recommend that any change in the skin that lasts longer than two weeks to heal, inform the family doctor is must.
What Causes Skin Cancer?
Sunburn and Sunlight
Very simply, suntan and UV fun can destruction your skin, and this hurt can lead to skin cancer. There are of course other shaping factors, as well as your inheritance and the environment you live in. However, in cooperation the sum amount of sun received on top of the years, and overexposure consequential in sunburn can cause skin cancer. Most people welcome 80% of their duration exposure to the sun by 18 time of age. The message to parents as of this is to protect your children.
Tanning is your skin’s response to UV light. It is a shielding rejoinder to thwart added injury to your skin on or after the sun. However, it does not prevent skin cancer.
Remember, skin cancer is very sluggish to develop. The suntan you greet this week may take 20 time or added to become skin cancer.
Symptoms of skin Cancer
Early signs of skin cancer these changes could in the color of skin or a sudden increase in the surface. The wounds that are resistant to treatment are also of concern. We recommend early treatment and increase the chances of recovery.
Precautions to be taken
But what about preventing skin cancer? The demand for those whose routines outdoors for several hours each day, sunscreen is a good way to minimize solar radiation. Sunscreens are lotions, sprays, gel and cream.
These are real applications that help prevent skin cancer in their struggle to absorb, scatter or deflect the sun’s ultraviolet rays. Sunscreens and UV-Light Sunscreens can be classified into three categories depending on the type of filters used. Some organic chemicals such as oxybenzone absorb UV radiation.
Other sunscreen products using mineral particles reflect, absorb and scatter UV light. These include titanium dioxide or zinc oxide. The third type of sunscreen is composed of organic molecules that absorb UV light, in particular, but also contains chromophores that scatter and reflect some light.
How Sunscreen products help us
Sunscreen products have a sun protection factor or SPF. This shows essentially the weather can be damaged by the sun with sunscreen, stay there the skin from UV light .Different people have different tolerances to UV light, with some losses of others. This depends on the nature of the skin.
Cancer For example, the color of the skin and white skin lesions and slightly increases the chances of skin cancer .This has implications for the prevention of skin cancer. It is also important to note that the nature of an individual developing cancer of the type of sunlight depends. So many people are increasingly exposed to the sun, while others only intermittently.
Some routines have been exposed to sunlight throughout the day, while others deliberately try to get a report on the need to tan. However the tan is only to damage the skin. Since TAN is as fashion, music, many people in the solarium that the body is exposed to artificial ultraviolet radiation.
Remember that the artificial sun is much stronger than natural sunlight and therefore are more harmful to the skin. It is important to bear this in mind when thinking of measures to prevent skin cancer.

National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Sandwiched Boomers
November 7, 2009
For the past 25 years, October has been designated National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. You’ll find races to run that raise funds for research. Stores will be selling everything from mixmasters to ipods in pink. In fact, pink ribbons will be virtually everywhere. What does this focus on early detection and recovery mean to you?
If you are over 40, have regular screening mammograms and perform monthly breast self-exams. And see your physician for an annual breast exam and consultation about risk factors and additional diagnostic steps to take, such as MRI. With early detection, most breast cancers now can be successfully treated. There are between 2 and 3 million American women living today who have survived breast cancer and are thriving. Yet, as many survivors have learned, the process of coping with any serious illness can take its toll – emotionally and physically. These 7 tips will help you manage your recovery so you can move forward with your life:
1. Accept your changing emotions as normal and give yourself permission to express them. After a brush with cancer, it’s normal to experience many different feelings, such as anger, fear, anxiety, depression or stress. Talk openly with those you trust and acknowledge these feelings to yourself. Only then can you begin to cope with them.
2. Recognize the changes in your body. You may feel that your body has betrayed you, leaving you vulnerable and with a loss of innocence about your own invincibility. Take time to grieve this loss. You may also experience side effects of the treatments – fatigue, weight change, hair loss, or menopausal symptoms. Once you determine how your body is reacting, you can address each of the symptoms in efforts to alleviate them.
3. Enjoy the support you receive from others. Your family and friends can provide a caring network. You may also want to join a breast cancer support group, either in person or on-line. Support is helpful in many ways – it gives you someone to listen to you when you need to talk, someone to give you information and feedback, someone to help you with practical matters such as meals and errands. Support will be there for you if you look for it. It may feel awkward at first to ask, but you’ll find friends want to do what they can to help you out.
4. Take care of yourself. Pamper yourself – you deserve it! Set aside time to start or continue an exercise program that includes aerobics, flexibility and strengthening exercises. Enjoy eating a more healthful diet, rich in fruits and vegetables. Schedule relaxation time to decrease the stresses in your life. Learn visualization techniques. Think about what you really enjoy doing and do it. Of course this may be easier said than done, but stick with your decision to make time for yourself. You can make it happen.
5. Redirect yourself toward active goal setting. When a serious illness strikes, you may feel like your life is completely out of control. To regain a sense of direction, reflect on the priorities that are important to you and then set a goal within your reach. Identify your strengths and build on them as you plan how to achieve your objectives. Journaling can help as you consider different strategies and options. Initiate your plan in small steps and review your progress regularly.
6. Make something positive come out of a difficult situation. Women who are able to find some positive meaning in negative circumstances experience growth as well as a sense of control and feelings of confidence and optimism. Think about how you can use the unique perspective you have gained to make the rest of your life richer and more meaningful.
7. Take credit for the challenge you have overcome and the changes you are making. Recognize and accept that you have faced many difficulties in the process of healing. Give yourself credit for the hard work it took to get to this point in your recovery. You have learned a lot about yourself – and made changes in the way you think, feel and react to others and the situation around you.
As women move through the steps of coping with breast cancer and its treatments, staying informed and involved in the process provides a sense of power and resiliency. One breast cancer survivor put it this way after completing a tough charity walk to raise funds for research: “As I crossed the ‘finish line’ in the pouring cold rain, I felt the exhilaration of my accomplishment, knowing that I had begun to trust myself again. I realized it had taken a long time for me to finally come to terms with the disease that had threatened my life. But now, with the acknowledgement and recognition that I allowed myself to accept from family and friends, I knew, through my tears, that I would have the strength to continue rebuilding myself, body and soul.”

Breast Cancer Prevention: Keeping it at Bay!
November 6, 2009
The good news is that the number of new cases of breast cancer dropped from 1999 to 2005, which may be due to the reduction in the use of hormone replacement therapy. I would like to think it may be partially due to more knowledge and awareness of causes and methods of prevention. Making prevention a daily activity is your best defense against breast cancer. Along with monitoring your breast health with regular medical screenings, follow these stragegies for reducing your risk.
Cut Your Chemical Exposure
This mainly refers to plastics. Certain chemicals interfere with your body’s hormonal balance and could harm breast health. To reduce your exposure to chemicals such as bisphenol A (BPA) and phthalates, use products that are make from glass, ceramic, or stanless steel whenever possible.
Choose Your Produce Carefully
Aim for five to nine servings a day of fruits and vegetables. Researchers have found that the synergistic effect of the consumption of a wide variety of colorful fruits and vegetables may thwart the development of breast tumors. It’s not one single item that is going to be a miracle cure, but the combination of many working together. Some of the vitamins and antioxidants actually work more effeciently when their synergistic partner or partners are around. Also, try to stay away from those heavily sprayed with pesticides and herbicides. A list of fruits and vegetables with the highest pesticide load can be found at www.foodnews.org. Lastly, don’t forget to thoroughly wash all produce, even organic, to remove any remaining chemicals.
Limit Your Red Meat Consumption
Eating red meat one time, or less, per week may lower your risk for breast cancer. Beef contains harmful compounds ranging from hormones and antibiotics given to them directly to accelerate their growth, to pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides given to them by way of their feed which ends up in their muscle (the meat we eat). Look for organic meats, at least lowering your chances for harmful chemical consumption, and avoid charred (burnt) meats. They can be high in carcinogens and promote unhealthy cell growth.
Limit Your Alcohol Consumption
Let’s face it, there is very little alcohol is good for except a buzz. It’s smarter to just leave the stuff alone. But, if you want to know how much is too much, then limit intake to less than five drinks a week. This limit even goes for the “wonderful” red wine, everyone supposedly drinks for hearth health.
Watch Your Weight
By eating small, healthy, frequent meals, and exercising at least 5 days a week, you should be able to control your weight. Sticking with a Mediterranean-style diet (for example) and incorporating physical activity are essential to guard against breast cancer. Obese women are more than twice as likely to develop breast cancer when compared to their non-obese counterparts.
In conclusion, antioxidants, phytochemicals, vitamins and minerals are ALL essential players in the fight against breast cancer. No one nutrient is more important than any other, especially when they all work synergistically, needing specific properties from eachother to reach their own full potential. They can all be supplemented, and sometimes should be, to obtain the adequate amounts needed to make a difference. Quality, consistency, and knowledge are very important to properly choose supplements. Always buy from a reputable company who sells only top of the line, quality products. My favorite online superstore is www.i-supplements.com. They sell only the best products and the website is very user friendly.

Peritoneal Mesothelioma: Causes, Symptoms and Treatments
November 2, 2009
Peritoneal mesothelioma is a rare form of a rare type of cancer. Mesothelioma is a cancer that’s caused from exposure to asbestos. Less than three thousand people are diagnosed with this type of cancer in the US each year. Of those, between ten and twenty percent have peritoneal mesothelioma.
Peritoneal mesothelioma is an aggressive cancer that grows in the peritoneum, which is a layer of tissue that essentially covers the abdominal area. Other types of mesothelioma form in the tissue that surrounds the organs like the heart and lungs.
This cancer is caused by inhaling asbestos. The fibers don’t break down in the body like many other ingest or inhaled substances. They never leave once inhaled, and lodge between mesothelial cells, which gives this type of cancer its name.
Because today we know that asbestos is dangerous and deadly, it has to be removed from public buildings and we’re warned about having it removed from our homes. Special hazardous materials handlers, known as hazmat workers, have to remove asbestos while wearing protective suits and using special equipment to keep it from getting on their skin or into the air.
Peritoneal mesothelioma, like other forms of asbestos-caused cancer, will often not show up for several years after the initial asbestos exposure. It can even take 2 to 5 decades before symptoms appear. But once the exposure happens, and the asbestos fibers lodge between the cells, they cause irritation and inflammation. This causes the cells to grow abnormally and they become cancerous. As the cells continue to grow and divide in this warped way, the peritoneum thickens, and the cells eventually form a tumor or often several tumors.
Symptoms can include things like fever, sweating at night, diarrhea, constipation, stomach pain, stomach swelling, weight loss, nausea, vomiting, anemia, constant fatigue, and in many cases the lumps growing on the abdominal wall can be felt beneath the skin. Since most of the symptoms are symptoms of a variety of ailments, having them does not mean you have peritoneal mesothelioma. X-rays can confirm or help rule out the disease, as can other testing like tissue or fluid biopsies.
This type of cancer has often been present in the body so long before it’s discovered, that it’s typically very hard to treat. By the time it’s discovered, it’s almost always last stage cancer, which means it has spread over the affected area and often beyond it. Surgery can be performed to remove the obvious cancer, and then chemotherapy and radiation are used to kill any remaining cancer cells or at least slow its growth. There is no cure, but these measures can bring temporary relief from the pain of the cancer and prolong the patient’s life.
A chemotherapy treatment known as intraperitoneal chemotherapy can sometimes be used to help fight the cancer. In this treatment, the medicine is injected into the peritoneum instead of the bloodstream, to fight the cancer at its source. This treatment and clinical trials of new treatments often give peritoneal mesothelioma patients the best chance at longer more comfortable lives than standard treatments alone.

Mesothelioma
October 31, 2009
Mesothelioma is a rare cancer that is most often found in patients that have had exposure to asbestos particles, commonly through inhalation. The risk of being diagnosed with this disease is higher in those who have had a prolonged exposure to asbestos. However, it is possible for some individuals that only have had a brief exposure to develop mesothelioma.
It is possible that family members and others have an increased risk of developing mesothelioma from living with those who work with asbestos. This may due to exposure to asbestos dust that clings to clothing or hair of the workers. In hopes to reduce this exposure, asbestos workers usually shower and change their clothing prior to coming home from their workplace. In fact, many companies require this of their employees.
This cancer of the mesothelium (a membrane that protects and envelops most of the internal organs of your body) is where the cells of the mesothelium become abnormal. They divide without control or order and can invade and damage nearby tissues and organs. As with many cancers, there is always the possibility of metastasizing or spreading to other parts of your body.
The following are symptoms to look out for when diagnosing mesothelioma:
•Weight loss
•Abdominal pain and swelling due to fluid buildup in the abdomen
•Bowel obstruction
•Abnormal blood clotting or anemia
•Fever
If the cancer has metastasized or spread to other parts of the body, additional symptoms may be pain, swelling of the neck and/or face and trouble swallowing.
Mesothelioma treatment options are based on the location of the cancer and the stage of the disease. Additional factors are the overall health of the patient and their age. The following are the most common treatments:
• Surgery. It is performed by removing part of the chest’s or abdomen’s lining and nearby tissue. It is also possible that removal of a lung may be necessary. Depending on the cancer location, a part of the diaphragm (a muscle below the lungs that helps you breathe) may also be removed.
• Chemotherapy. This is a common treatment for cancer in general which uses drugs to kill the cancer cells in the body. Most of these drugs used to treat mesothelioma are given by injection through an IV intravenously.
• Radiation or radiotherapy. This is another common treatment for many cancers. It uses high energy rays designed to kill cancer cells and shrink tumors. This is a targeted therapy that only affects cancer cells in the treated area and can be delivered in two ways. It may come from external radiation through a machine or via materials that produce radiation that are applied by inserting thin plastic tubes into the cancer affected area through internal therapy.
Unfortunately, there is no cure on the horizon for mesothelioma. Patients can respond well to treatment, however this may only relieve or sooth the symptoms of this disease. It is important to raise awareness of risk factors of and to make sure that more people are not diagnosed with this disease.

The American Children’s Society
October 28, 2009
Cancer is something which devastates thousands of families every year. Not only are there the countless victims who tragically lose their lives to the illness, but countless lives are blighted by diagnoses which may not be immediately terminal but will pose a real threat to the quality and comfort of sufferers’ lives. It is a condition that only needs to be named to send a shiver up the spines of anyone who has known it. It is all the more disturbing when cancer attacks a child. For anyone who has lost a family member to cancer, or seen how it can prey on the body of even someone who survives, it is something that no-one would want to see twice.
The American Children’s Society is a charity set up to help child sufferers of cancer and their families. By raising money to pay for treatment and other necessities they allow the child and their family to concentrate solely on trying to recover from the dreadful illness which has visited them. The truth of the matter is that without the help of the American Children’s Society there are many families who would be unable to join the battle with their children’s illness anywhere near as successfully as they presently do. The Society has in recent years helped out in raising donations and providing support in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina as well as its help for families suffering as a result of a child’s cancer diagnosis. It is still, however, cancer that remains the major focus of the American Children’s Society, especially in the light of certain quite shocking statistics.
Each year, for example, more than 12,000 children below the age of 19 are diagnosed with cancer in the United States. Before their adult life has even started, this means that they have to deal with an illness that attacks very aggressively and requires an incredible amount of strength to fight it. An illness that leaves adults comprehensively broken, and which attacks more than 35 children every day. And yet there are survivors, there are people who manage to break the stranglehold of the horrible illness that is cancer and go on to live completely normal lives, thanks in no small part to organizations such as the American Children’s Society.
Among the many excellent initiatives run by the ACS, there is a campaign of automobile donation which allows drivers to gift their old cars to the charity for use in their fundraising and logistical efforts to take the fight to the road and beat children’s’ cancer. These vehicles allow the Society to assist families with transport needs, equipment and various other aids which can make a huge level of difference to a child’s recovery. It is necessary that organizations like the American Children’s Society can do the work that they do, because every year the number of children who are diagnosed with cancer increases. One day the tide will be turned back, but it will require the help of organizations like this to ensure that this is the case.

Some Tips For Preventing Cancer
October 25, 2009
Possibly no word strikes greater fear in people’s hearts than cancer. So it is important to employ every possible strategy that may prevent you from ever hearing it in connection with your health. If you are still smoking, you need to stop. Although it is true that some non-smokers have gotten lung cancer, the majority of people with lung cancer are smokers. Cure your home if it is sick. Radon is a natural gas that can also cause lung cancer. It enters your home from soil and rock in the surrounding area. The danger is you cannot see or smell it. But you can order test kits to check the levels in your home. If you discover they are high, it is not expensive to clear them out.
Go for the green – tea that is. While all tea has cancer-preventing properties, green tea is the highest in polyphenols that kill several types of cancer cells including breast, liver, colon, lung, pancreas, and skin cancer. And a couple of cups of coffee each day will ward off cancer of the liver. According to Swedish scientists, coffee is high in the antioxidants that prevent the formation of carcinogens. Once you’ve had your cup of Java for the day, get moving. Scientific research has proven that exercise protects your immune system. And your immune system is your body’s defense against cancer. In fact, a healthy immune system can destroy a cancer cell without your awareness. Then when you’re thirsty after the exercise, try a glass of grape juice instead of a soda. Purple grape juice has also been proven to improve your immune system’s function.
And when it’s time for dinner, try substituting fish for beef. Frequent consumption of red meat increases your risk of colon cancer, lung cancer and breast cancer due to the high saturated fat content. Fish, on the other hand, is high in omega-3 fats that are beneficial to your health and since they are difficult to find, it is common for people to be deficient in omega-3 fats. Be sure to make your meal colorful. Your diet should include a variety of fruits and vegetables of all colors. Each fruit or vegetable has different anti-oxidants and together they all offer you protection from cancer.
Take the right supplements. Calcium and Vitamin D offer protections from the risk of developing breast cancer and also are important in preventing other diseases. Most people do not get the recommended daily allowance of vitamin D, especially those who live in winter climates, so a supplement is important. Of course, individuals should always check with their health care provider before adding any supplement to their diet.
Choose the right spices. Add a little garlic to your diet. Garlic contains sulfur compounds that have been found to prevent rapid cell division, a process that cancer cells need in order to spread. Add the garlic to tomato sauce and become a tomato lover. Tomatoes contain lycopene, an antioxidant that has been proved to reduce the risk of colon, lung and breast cancer. Lycopene destroys free radicals before they can effect the cellular changes that lead to cancer. And processed products are as effective as the fresh vegetable. You can get the same benefit from ketchup, tomato sauce, tomato paste and cooked tomatoes.

Cancer is Getting Harder to Beat and Avoid
October 23, 2009
In recent years, statistical cancer death rates have been showing decreases for some cancers in some parts of the world, which has led some people to optimistically report that cancer is getting easier to beat. Nothing could be farther from the truth.
As noted in “Hiding the Truth about Losing the War on Cancer”, statistics can be manipulated and often have been by those with vested interests in maintaining the illusion that we are turning the corner, or that a cure is just around that elusive corner, in the decades long and mostly failed war on cancer.
The statistics which tell the real story are those which clearly show that the incidence of cancer continues to grow alarmingly, as does the expected worldwide cancer deaths. Between one in two and one in three people are now expected to encounter cancer in their lifetimes.
According to the WHO’s World Cancer Report, considered to be the most comprehensive global examination of the disease to date, cancer rates could further increase by 50% to 15 million new cases in the year 2020.
Many people, including this author, believe that a great deal of the credit for declining death rates is a result of more people looking outside the failed mainstream therapies box and relying on natural and alternative means to address their cancers. As the aforementioned WHO report also noted, there was “provides clear evidence that healthy lifestyles and public health action by governments and health practitioners could stem this trend, and prevent as many as one third of cancers worldwide.”
The good news is that, thanks to websites like this one and the writers and natural health advocates who are spreading the good word, an increasing number of people are learning about, and turning to, natural and alternative therapies. The bad news is that alternative, non-mainstream, non-toxic and non-invasive therapies continue to be repressed and misrepresented in mainstream studies. The further bad news is that even those who do learn the truth about alternatives are often finding cancer is getting harder to avoid and beat. Though this article is primarily about cancer, the same is true for heart disease and other major chronic illness, and for pretty much the same reasons: we continue to become exposed to more and more toxins and pollution, live unhealthy lifestyles and eat diets that are less nutritionally sound. As a result, our immune systems and our vitality continue to decline – and regardless of any treatment, herb or therapy, mainstream or otherwise, it is our immune system, nature’s first line of defense against illness, that is the most important key to beating and avoiding cancer.
People do not beat and avoid cancer nor get other illnesses due to a deficiency in chemotherapy or deficiencies in mainstream medicine. They get cancer and become ill because toxins and diseases beat their immune systems. As data from the CDC and other have shown, our immune systems are becoming progressively weaker, the same as male sperm count is progressively declining. In 1981, Dr. H. F. Pross did a study of the average Natural Killer (NK) count of average Americans. NK count is measured in lytic units (LU), and Dr. Pross found that the average LU count in 1981 was 152. In 1991, Dr. R. B. Herberman did a similar study and found that the LU count had dropped to 135. In 1997, Dr. Gerald See did another study and found the count had dropped to 108. In other words, we are dropping at about the rate of 1 LU per year. Which means that the average LU count in 2009 is likely to be somewhere around 96 – which would be an alarming drop of 37% in less than three decades!
Other than earlier detection and including some easily remedied forms of cancer that were once considered simply pre-cancerous conditions, little real progress has been made by the use of mainstream invasive and toxic therapies of surgery, chemotherapy and radiation – all which have been shown to increase the spread of cancer and weaken the body to pave the way for further cancer, particularly the latter two (chemo and radiation).
Most people are likely unaware that virtually all chemotherapy drugs are themselves classified as Class 1 carcinogens! And radiation merely destroys our bone marrow that is the heart of our immune system.
A strong immune system from proper diet and nutrition, a healthy lifestyle, elimination of stress, and proper supplementation and nutrition, is still the best way to avoid and beat cancer, especially when buttressed by herbal immune boosters and cancer fighters. But it takes diligence and effort – more so now than ever before.
Cancer and the world we live in have changed a lot during the past 50 years and for that reason we do not seem to see the same successes with some of the famed treatments of prior decades, like the outstanding Budwig Diet protocol, Essiac tea, Hoxsey, Gerson, etc. Cancer appears to be getting harder to avoid and harder to beat once acquired. That is likely due to a number of factors.
One problem, and a very big one, is one we will likely have to live with for centuries: the amount of radiation now found in virtually every square inch of the earth’s surface as a result of the atmospheric atomic bomb blasts that spewed millions of tons of radioactive material into our environment. Two time Nobel Laureate Linus Pauling warned of millions of deaths and injuries that could be expected as a result of atmospheric bomb tests. He was rewarded by having the State Department pull his passports. A pre-eminent Russian scientist and later Nobel Laureate himself, Andrei Sakharov, predicted between half a million and one million deaths for every 50 megatons of atmospheric bomb tests (ultimately the tests of the United States and Russia combined to produce fallout equivalent to 40,000 Hiroshimas). Instead of having his passports pulled, Sakharov received a free trip and vacation from the state – an exile to a Siberian Gulag for the next 20 plus years, that is.
In addition to the radiation from nuclear bomb tests that will stay with us for ages, we are increasingly being bombarded with microwaves and high power transmission lines, which industry is recently beginning to lose their decades long cover up of the dangers they have known such technology presented.
Add to that the fact that our industrial age has added no fewer than 80,000 unnatural chemical compounds to our environment, less than 1,000 of which have been tested individually in any way for safety and almost none of which have been tested in combination with one another.
Next, you have about 20,000 FDA approved medications (both prescribed and over the counter) which have been mostly poorly tested for safety individually, scarcely tested for carcinogenic/mutagenic short or long term dangers, and almost none of which have been tested in combination with each other. Over 95% of all FDA approved medications have known side effects by themselves. In combination, one can only imagine what short and long term side-effects could result – and one is reminded that many chronic conditions are years in the making. Some cancers, for example, take eight years after they have gained a foothold to grow to the size of a pinhead (after which, the doubling rate increases their size much faster).
Then there are the foods and nutrition we tend to consume (or not consume as the case may be). The food products on the grocers shelves have by and large had the nutrition processed out and additives processed in for added shelf life, flavor, color and texture. The ones that claim to be “enriched” with vitamins and minerals are enriched mostly with synthetic petro-chemical vitamins and crushed rock minerals – not natural ones or ones that have been pre-digested by plants to be bio-available for human benefit.
Our fruit and vegetables are picked early and artificially ripened/preserved with chemicals – plus they often contain pesticides and/or herbicides and come from over-farmed soils which severely lack the major and trace minerals needed for optimum nutrition. Increasingly, our major food crops are being genetically modified to enable them to withstand more and more of such pesticides and herbicides. Increasingly, vital enzymes and other natural compounds are being destroyed by irradiation to “protect us” from natural crops.
Our mineral depleted and over-farmed soils usually they have just a few petro-chemical synthetics added back to the soil which produce the best growth, but lack the best nutrients. Pesticides, herbicides and other chemicals have killed off the vital soil micro-organisms needed to convert what minerals do remain to usable forms to be taken up by the plants. Those micro-organisms which do remain seldom have adequate time to perform their vital roles thanks to over-farming and lack of proper crop rotation.
Today, most of us are deficient in most vital trace minerals needed for optimum health and many major minerals and vitamins as well. Thanks to the totally overboard scares about the danger of exposure to the sun, most of us are woefully deficient in Vitamin D3 – instead slathering on sunscreens which block out the beneficial rays, let in the harmful ones and contain carcinogens to boot. Most of us are similarly lacking in iodine, and many are lacking in selenium which, besides many other health benefits, is an important co-factor for iodine to be properly utilized. While many people diligently supplement with calcium via milk or supplements, as many as 95% of us are deficient in magnesium – and without magnesium being consumed/supplemented on a 1 to 2 or 1 to 3 ratio with calcium, the calcium does not work.
In great part, cancer is a defense mechanism where the cells mutate to protect themselves from a heavy metal, chemical compound, or other irritant/toxin. One of the things they do is form an outer protective shell which prevents the body’s natural immune system from recognizing and killing off the cancer cells. Some have observed that this protective layer is getting thicker in many forms of cancer, possibly as a result of all the added toxins and other factors listed above. The end result is that cancer is more hardened against attack and is harder to recognize and defeat by immune systems that are most often in less than optimum condition to begin with.
In addition, the body’s great toxin removal organ, the liver, is also often compromised and operating at far less than peak efficiency. Instead of a toxin removal organ, many people have developed fatty livers which are fat and toxin storage organs and which have bile ducts that fail to eliminate toxins but instead serve to recycle them through the bloodstream.
Perhaps the best of all the Mexican Clinics is the one established by Harry Hoxsey’s prot?g? and partner, Mildred Nelson, an angel of healing who passed on in 1999. In her later years, she observed that their clinic was still having wonderful results with most forms of cancer, but cancers which once had been able to cured in only three weeks or so were taking up to six month or longer. I believe that what she observed is a perfect illustration of what I outlined above.
My own suggested anti-cancer protocol (see “A Natural Anti-Cancer Protocol”) may be overkill for many people. But I think it takes more than just one cancer preventative or cancer fighter these days. That is why the wonderful Budwig protocol, once an almost sure cancer beater and still very successful, is considered an essential part of what I recommend, but far from the ONLY element.
With declining immune systems in an increasingly polluted, poorly nourished, overmedicated and toxic world, cancer is not getting easier to avoid and neither is it getting easier to beat. Cancer may be easier to beat than most people think, but that is only because most people still do not know a fraction of what good diet, nutrition, herbal supplementation and alternative treatments have to offer.
The more people who educate themselves about alternatives to ineffective and toxic therapies, the more that will be saved.

How to Cope With the Stress of Mesothelioma Chemotherapy
October 20, 2009
Chemotherapy can be a grueling experience for most mesothelioma patients, most of the anti cancer drugs have terrible side effects that you will experience during the course of the therapy. These following steps will help you cope with the stress of chemotherapy:
-Focus on the goals of your treatment in your mind. This will help you keep a positive attitude on days when the going gets rough.
-Try and eat good food, though in little and moderate quantities, your body needs all the necessary food nutrients to rebuild tissues and remain strong.
-Learn as much as you want to know about mesothelioma cancer and its treatment. This will help you to cope better with the fear of the unknown and increase your feeling of control.
-Keep a journal or diary while you’re being treated. A record of your activities and thoughts can help you understand the feelings you have as you go through treatment. It can also help you highlight questions you need to ask your doctor or nurse. You also can use your journal to record the side effects. This will help you when you talk about them with your doctor and nurse. You can write down the steps you take to cope with side effects and how well those steps work, too. That way, you’ll know which methods worked best for you in case you have the same side effects again.
-Do not over exert yourself physically; you need to take things easy as your strength will be depleted by the effects of the powerful drugs that you are taking, so try to get as much rest as you can. Let the small stuff slide and only do the things that are most important to you.
-Try new hobbies and learn new skills.
-Exercise if you can and if your doctor says you can. Exercise helps to make you feel better about yourself, help you get rid of tension or anger, and build your appetite.
-Devise means of coping with stress and relaxing. There are simple techniques that you can practice that can help you cope with stress and help you relax. You should discuss with your doctor before you start using these techniques, especially if you have lung problems.
These are some of the technique that can help you deal with stress and relax:
•Lie down in a quiet room.
•Take a slow, deep breath.
•As you breathe in, tense a muscle or group of muscles. For example, clench your teeth or stiffen your arms or legs.
•Keep your muscles tense for a second or 2 while holding your breath.
•Then breathe out, release the tension, and let your body relax completely.
•Repeat the process with another muscle or muscle group.
Another way to do this is called progressive relaxation. You work your way up your body starting with the toes of one foot. Contract then relax all the muscles of one leg. Do the same with the other leg. Work your way up your body, contracting then relaxing each of the muscle groups in your body, including those in your neck and face. Remember to hold your breath while briefly contracting your muscles and to breathe out when releasing the tension.
Rhythmic breathing:
•Get into a comfortable position and relax all your muscles.
•Close your eyes or focus on a distant object if you prefer to keep them open.
•Breathe in and out slowly and comfortably through your nose. If you like, keep the rhythm steady by saying to yourself, “In, one, two. Out, one, two.”
•Feel yourself relax and go limp each time you breathe out.
•You can continue this for just a few seconds or for up to 10 minutes.
Other forms of relaxation techniques that you can use include biofeedback, distraction, mental imagery, visualization and hypnosis.

Mesothelioma Support Groups-How to Find the Best One For You
October 20, 2009
When you are faced with a diagnosis of mesothelioma cancer there are many resources are available for you and your family to benefit. You can seek for support from family and friends, as well as from health professionals, support groups, or your place of worship. Asking for support is one way you can feel in control of what’s going on in your life, your need for support is not a sign of weakness.
You feel lonely and abandoned. You may loose your desire to continue living . If your are not getting the much needed support from your friends and family then find others who can support you. There are probably others in your community who need your companionship as much as you need theirs. The mutual support of others with cancer might also be a source of comfort. You will probably need the support of different support groups to help you cope with the diagnosis of mesothelioma cancer.
What are different types of support groups?
There are different types and formats for support groups, there are individual, group counseling and support groups. Some support groups are formal and focus on learning about cancer or dealing with feelings. There are also less formal and more social groups. Some groups consist mainly of people with cancers or only caregivers, while others include spouses, family members, or friends. Other groups focus on certain types of cancer or stages of disease like mesothelioma cancer. Some groups have their meetings over a number of weeks while some others meet over a longer period of time. Some programs no longer accept new members while other groups are still open to new members.
Health professionals (a social worker, nurse, or other licensed professional), trained facilitators, or a group member may lead the group. The leader of a group should have some type of training before taking charge of a support group.
Telephone counseling groups
For those who cannot attend meetings or appointments, counseling over the telephone is offered by organizations such as Cancer Care, Inc. Some people may find online support groups helpful because they like the privacy. It may be comforting to chat with other people facing situations much like yours. But keep in mind that chat rooms and message boards are not the best source of cancer information, especially if they are not monitored by trained professionals or experts.
No matter what kind of group it is, everyone taking part should feel comfortable in the group and with the facilitator. If you have any fears or uncertainties before entering a group, try to discuss them with the group’s facilitator ahead of time.
Along with support programs, other means of support may be available in your community such as:
•Home health nursing services
•Social services, such as counseling and financial aid
•Nutrition services that provide meals or allow you to talk with a registered dietitian
•Rehabilitation services provided by physical and occupational therapists
•Spiritual services from chaplains or religious figures in the community
Support in any form allows you to talk about your feelings and develop skills to cope with the changes taking place in your life. Some studies have found that people who go to support groups have an improved quality of life, including better sleep and appetite.
Self-help groups
Self-help groups are most often run by non-professionals who have been through the same kinds of problems or crises. The people in these groups can relate to your experience firsthand and often have treatment-related tips and advice that may help you. For example, they may offer a home remedy that helped with their nausea, or know where to get the best prices on wigs and turbans. If their family members are not in the group, patients are free to express exactly how they feel. Family members can also benefit from sharing their feelings, fears, and anxieties with other families affected by mesothelioma cancer.
Self-help groups also give people recovering or who are long term survivors of mesothelioma cancer help others with the cancer. With some training, many people with cancer have found that helping others makes them feel better about themselves. They may go on to become group counselors or facilitators.
Choosing when to take part in a support group is important. Some find it difficult to join a support group when they are first diagnosed. The stories that other patients may share, after months or even years of treatment, can be overwhelming and upsetting. If you try a group and it doesn’t feel right, you may want to try again later or try another group.
Religion
Religion can be a source of strength for some people. Some find new faith when diagnosed with cancer. Others find their cancer experience strengthens their existing faith or their faith gives them newfound strength and hope. Others who have never had strong religious beliefs may not feel an urge to turn to religion at this time. A minister, rabbi, other leader of your faith, or a trained pastoral counselor can help you find spiritual support. Some members of the clergy are specially trained to minister to people with cancer and their families. Some hospitals also have chaplains available.
Ask your health care team about the resources available at your hospital. You can also contact your American Cancer Society to find out about sources of support that are available in your community.
