Boost Your Health With Natural Honey Bee’s

July 30, 2009

Bees make honey out of the nectar that they sip from flower blossoms. A long and tedious process is necessary to transform nectar into the thick, golden substance that we call honey. Like each product that is produced by the honeybee, care and a number of steps are essential in order to create this beehive food, with honey being no exception. This sweet, nutritious edible substance is a viscous fluid that is exclusively created by the honeybee. Even the most sophisticated modern techniques have failed to synthetically manufacture honey. Like royal jelly, propolis, and bee pollen, honey is only available from Mother Nature. It is a precious and coveted substance that has fascinated and pleased cultures throughout time.

The ancient Greeks called honey one of nature’s most precious gifts, while the Assyrians, Chinese, and Romans routinely prescribed it for its medicinal value. Numerous biblical references refer to the “Honeycomb” and the “Land of Milk and Honey,” as well as the “Enlightenment” that comes from eating honey. Hippocrates recorded that a honey drink cures phlegm and calms down a cough. He was one of the first known advocates for using Honey and Vinegar for fevers and other ailments. All of ancient cultures believed that the use of honey each and every day would insure health and longevity. All kinds of wines and foods were routinely mixed with honey, causing them to be viewed by all peoples as a treasure which the gods provided for health.

Of all the ancient cultures, Egyptians prized honey enough to use it as a form of money. Hieroglyphics often refer to honey as the universal healer and jars of honey were routinely placed in tombs of the dead. Because of its superior preservative properties, honey used to be an integral part of the formula that was used in the mummification process. Throughout all of history, honey has been used to treat open wounds and fight infection. Unfortunately, the advent of refined sugar caused honey to take a back seat to other more popular sweeteners. Thankfully, today honey is experiencing resurgence, as it was once an often overlooked beehive food that is full of nutritive and medicinal value.

When a bee lands on a flower, it sucks a tiny amount of nectar to its honey sac. It is within this sac that the transformation of nectar to honey begins. The nectar is mixed with acid secretions to eventually form the coveted honey that we consume. Substantial amounts of nectar are necessary to produce significant amounts of honey, making flying the distance of up to three miles necessary to obtain the amounts of nectar that is needed to fill the sac. Once the sac is full, the honeybee returns to the hive, where a receiving bee takes the nectar and continues the process, changing, enriching, and concentrating the nectar. Following this, the receiving bee drops the mixture into the empty cells of the honeycomb.

In order to produce a single pound of honey, bees must provide the hive with over 70,000 loads of nectar. A healthy beehive can produce about 300 pounds of honey each season. The health benefits of honey have now been captured by manufactures like Premier one and Montana big sky. Natural honey is available in liquid form at your local or internet health food store. Look for name brands to ensure quality and purity of the product you purchase.

Diabetes Pointers

July 30, 2009

One never knows if one is exposed to the risk of developing diabetes or not and just carries on with the daily routine of life. The signs are very subtle and show up without one even noticing it. Diabetes has been around for a long time but is gaining eminence in recent times. If left undetected or untreated it progresses rapidly and is a potential killer. At the same time if attention is paid when there are certain indications of physical malfunction then it can be arrested in its footsteps, controlled and even prevented from causing severe complications.

The word “diabetes” instills a fear in the mind when uttered. In reality, it is a controllable disease but requires a lot of cooperation from the diabetic. Upon diagnosis the patient’s world comes crashing down, a very natural reaction but one must grab a hold of oneself in order to be on the winning side. A positive attitude takes one a long way so be encouraged. Early symptoms of diabetes are generally very mild and go unnoticed. But when there is something amiss then it is necessary to take action immediately.

Warning signs of the presence of the disease are as follows and not to be neglected, frequent urination (especially at night), unusual weight loss or gain, vomiting, nausea, tingling, burning sensation in the hands or feet, blurry vision, extreme thirst, increased hunger, slow healing wounds, recurring bladder and vaginal infections, dark, velvety patches on the skin, fatigue and tiredness. Children complain of pain in the abdomen. Diabetes attacks any age group male or female not sparing the animals as well. It has been categorized into three types namely Type 1 or Juvenile Diabetes, Type 1 diabetes and Gestational diabetes.

The malfunction of the pancreas is the origin of diabetes. When the pancreas fails to produce the sufficient amount of a hormone called insulin or none at all, then the downfall begins. Insulin is essential for the conversion of glucose into energy; this energy is used by the body for daily functions. This deficiency causes the blood sugar level to rise as the glucose keeps collecting in the bloodstream as it cannot enter the body cells. If the signs are not attended to quickly then it will lead to severe kidney damage, blindness, heart disease and irreparable nerve damage. Many times nerve damage leads to gangrene and amputations. The feet also face the risk of damage.

Diabetes, if taken care of in its early stages can be handled if proper care is taken by the diabetic him or herself. A normal, healthy diet that includes plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, foods low in fats and carbohydrates, and what the doctor recommends will do the diabetic a world’s good. Exercise also helps in a big way. Being physically inactive and overweight are also risk factors and that needs to be taken care of. Diabetes is passed on genetically as well. The doctor may prescribe medications which need to be taken on a regular, timely basis. All support should be given to a person diagnosed with diabetes as it crushes their self esteem and reason for living. Love, care and understanding are the key ingredients. In case you’re diabetic know there is hope and it will keep you alive and give you the strength you need!

Follow a Low Carbohydrate Diet For Diabetes

July 30, 2009

A doctor has diagnosed you as a diabetic. You are very well aware about precautions to be taken, but you want to live happy, healthy and prosperous life. You want to enjoy your remaining life, as you enjoyed the earlier part of it. Is it possible to enjoy the life with diabetes? Who will help you to achieve this goal? How to follow restrictions on foods that you like to eat? Well, the answer of all these questions is a resounding yes you can have a normal and happy life. Thanks to low carbohydrate diets. Here is how you follow a low carbohydrate diet to live happy diabetic life.

Diabetes is related to the sugar level in your blood. Increase in this level is one of the causes of diabetes. If you consume foods containing high carbohydrates your blood sugar level rises. Therefore it is your responsibility to maintain sugar levels at normal levels. With the help of medication, exercise and a proper diet you can control your blood sugar level. This process is known as management of blood sugar. The disease is classified into three types—type 1, type 2, and gestational diabetes.

The pancreas in our body produces insulin, which helps to produce glucose. In type 1 diabetes, the pancreas is not able to produce sufficient amount of insulin or no insulin at all. Therefore, it’s necessary to take insulin for a type 1 diabetic person. Type 2 diabetes is generally related to obesity. In type 2 diabetes, our body does not produce sufficient amount of insulin or the body cells refuse insulin. And gestational diabetes is generally found in women during their pregnancies. The reasons can be hormones released during pregnancy or inadequate amount of insulin produced by the body.

In all three types of diabetes it is the ratio of insulin and glucose that causes several symptoms and complications. So it’s necessary to maintain that ratio. Diabetes medication includes insulin. So, what about glucose or blood sugar? Well, it’s possible to control the blood sugar level by controlling the carbohydrate intake. The source of glucose in our body is carbohydrates. Our body converts carbohydrates into glucose. Obviously, you can control glucose by controlling the intake of carbohydrates. A low carbohydrate diet for diabetes is based on this very concept.

A low carbohydrate diet for diabetes allows eating foods containing lower amount of carbohydrates. It helps to reduce blood sugar. The limit of carbohydrate intake is around 20 grams in a day. This calls for carbohydrate counting. You can consume low carbohydrates basically from green vegetable and salads. Low carbohydrate diet does not restrict foods that you like to eat including meat, fish, eggs and seafood. You can enjoy these foods and keep your diet as tasty as it was earlier. You need not to give up these foods, but you should not forget the permitted amount of intake. While controlling the blood sugar level, it also provides sufficient amount of proteins and fats. It also provides calories. If you have type 2 diabetes low carb diet will also help you lose weight.

These days there are many companies which manufacture food products following the low carbohydrate diet concept. There are varieties of foods from beverages to tasty meals for you to choose from.

Diabetes is not the end of the world, so go ahead and enjoy your life.

2 Simple Tips to Dramatically Increase Chest Size and Strength

July 30, 2009

Everybody who lifts weights will come to realize that they have at least one stubborn body part that seems to refuse to grow no matter what they do. That body part for me has always been my chest. I was always seemingly “cursed” with a small chest size even though I was bench pressing some pretty heavy weight. I tried a variety of different chest exercises, hoping that the variation would stimulate some new muscle growth. Incline bench presses, decline bench presses, and different forms of dumbbell presses were all added to my routine. However, none of these really helped to promote any dramatic gain in muscle size.

It was not until my strongman/competition coach gave me a little form advice that I began to see a big boost in chest size and strength from the bench press. I wish to share this with everyone, because although it seems so simple, it works so well. As you lay on the bench, squeeze your shoulder blades together as closely and tightly as you can. You will notice that squeezing your shoulder blades together will cause your arms to be further apart than normal. They will also seem to push outward more when you perform the pressing movement. This is exactly what you want. By squeezing your shoulder blades together, you are placing much less emphasis on your shoulders and much more emphasis on your chest and lats. Aside from giving you a much deeper muscle pump, using this technique will immediately allow you to bench press a heavier weight. With your chest and lats being recruited more effectively, do not be surprised to see that you can immediately bench ten to twenty pounds more than your previous max. Now you will be hitting your chest muscles better and will be lifting a heavier load, which in turn will yield muscle growth.

A second tip that I have found to be greatly effective in stimulating your chest muscle is even simpler than the one previously described. This involves widening your grip on the bench press. The wider your grip is on the bar, the more strain will be placed on your chest while at the same time decreasing the recruitment of your deltoids and triceps. Do not go too wide, however, as this may cause injury. As you widen your grip by an inch or two you will notice a much deeper pump in your chest. Be careful, though, because bench pressing gets a little harder as you get wider on the bar. So if your max is three hundred pounds with your current grip, you might not be able to press that same weight with a wider grip. Therefore, you may need to drop a little weight off of the bar. Do not be afraid that you are pressing less weight, because in the end you will be working your chest much better. You will understand this once you try it.

Incorporating these two tips into my chest routine has worked wonders for me. Over the past six months I have packed on 2.5 inches to my chest size, even during a cutting phase. My one-rep max has increased as well. They work, so give them a try and watch as you bust through your plateau.

Bifocal Reading Glasses For Better Reading!

July 30, 2009

Do you already need to use spectacles for activities such as reading? At some point in life, reading newspapers and books becomes difficult for some people. While reading glasses may be an option for some, they may not quite work for you in case you already wear glasses for distance vision. It could be taxing, for example, if you had to swap your glasses all the time. The perfect answer to this common problem is simple and effective—bifocals.

Bifocals were invented by the American statesman Benjamin Franklin. Franklin, apparently had two pairs of glasses, and juggling them all the time was particularly inconvenient for someone as busy as him. He came up with a simple solution that was to change the world of optical accessories forever—he just cut the two lenses in half and fitted them one above the other. He combined his two lenses to make a single bifocal lens that would serve the needs of close- as well as distance-vision. This revolutionary idea has seen many mutations, but has survived as a simple and efficient concept that has been indispensable to the optician.

Bifocal lenses are basically a lens with two different specifications for the top and bottom halves. Some of them have a distinct line separating the two. They are called ‘Franklin lenses’ or ‘Executive lenses’. Nowadays, however, models are available which do show the distinctive line and are called progressive lenses.

The lower part of the lens is for reading purposes, while the upper half is for visibility at a distance. This is because most people look down while reading and up while looking into the distance.

Four Designs

There are basically four distinctive designs for bifocal lenses, four different ways of embedding the reading lens in the other lens. One way is the Franklin lens, as discussed above. Some other glasses have a round part on the lower side of the lens. Others have a slanted ‘D’ shape, or half-moon, while some even go for the ‘ribbon’ segment which is a rectangular position along the lower half of the lens.

All said and done, you may go in for any kind of bifocals you are comfortable with. But all of them work on the same basic principle—the lower part for reading and the upper part for seeing—and the various models only provide minor differences in visual definition and ease. Bifocals may be a bit uncomfortable to start with, but as you get used to them and know how to look through each lens, you will be able to fully appreciate the benefits of the innovation that is the bifocal.

Bifocals are the best way to get rid of two sets of glasses. But it doesn’t mean you have to throw away your old glasses. Just go to an optician with your lenses and tell him to cut them in half so you can make yourself your very own pair of Franklins.

Senior Exercise For The Young At Heart

July 30, 2009

Many seniors find once they reach retirement age that they finally have the time—and, if they planned well, the money—to do the things they’ve always wanted to do, whether that be travel around the world or take pottery classes at the local community college. Unfortunately, while their minds may still be sharp as a tack, their bodies are just starting to let them down in a multitude of little ways; aches, pains, arthritis, etc. These physical limitations will only get worse with time. That’s the bad news.

The good news is, senior exercise can prevent many little health problems that would otherwise be an annoyance at best, and possibly even life-threatening at worst. From the time a person is over 50, exercise should play a guiding role in arranging their schedule. Fifty is no longer “old age;” why let your body think it is?

If you are looking towards retirement, or perhaps already retired, you should look into finding senior exercise programs that match your level of fitness and challenge you to do a little more than before. As with 20- and 30-year-olds, there’s a fine line to walk between challenging your body and damaging your body. This is where a senior exercise program or a personal trainer can come in handy. If you live in a large city, chances are good that your local community center will have

But suppose it doesn’t? Alternately, suppose their “senior exercise” programs are geared towards people who are less physically fit than you are, or more fit? If you find yourself in a situation where the exercises are too challenging, you should explain the situation to the instructor and see if s/he offers gentle or “beginners” programs, or if s/he can recommend someone who does. Know your body’s limits. Exercise that’s a little more strenuous than you’re accustomed to prevents health problems; exercise that’s much more strenuous can cause them. You don’t want to damage your body trying to keep it healthy!

On the other hand, it may be that the exercise program isn’t strenuous enough. If that’s the case, you might consider quitting, unless you enjoy the chance to be around other seniors. There is something to be said for the health benefits of sharing activities with other people.

In either case, however, if you want to make the most out of senior exercise—or if your local community center doesn’t offer a senior exercise program—then you may find yourself on your own. If that’s the case, you may benefit from a senior exercise video. These videos range in difficulty from the very easiest exercises to some that are quite strenuous. You should have no problems finding one to suit your needs. There’s rarely any “one size fits all” solution for elderly exercise; seniors, like every other age group, have a wide range of physical ability.

Seniors should never overlook the most basic of activities; walking is a gentle, repetetive exercise that helps keep you fit and healthy. If you’re able, consider climbing stairs several times a day. The longer you climb stairs, the longer you’ll be able to climb stairs. Senior exercise equipment may also be a good choice for you. It’s typically more gentle on joints and bones than other forms of exercise equipment. Or, try a senior exercise chair, if other forms of senior exercise equipment seem too strenuous.

Exercise for women over 50 should take into account the softening of their bones. Even if you don’t suffer from osteoarthritis or osteoporosis, there’s still a good chance that your bones are losing density. Your exercise program must realize that, and make protecting your bones a primary focus.

Whether you’re just walking around the block or you’re actively engaged in an intense senior exercise program at your local community center, you cannot afford to overlook the importance of exercise. Studies have shown that elderly exercise can help prevent a multitude of health problems.

Half an hour to an hour of gentle senior exercise seven days a week, for example, may help prevent heart attacks and strokes. It can also help prevent or even cure depression, especially (but not only) if you can find a good senior fitness program to join. Exercise helps keep blood sugar stable, and can often help prevent diabetes, or keep your diabetes under control if you already have it. And these are only a small sampling of the health problems that senior exercise can help treat or prevent! The list could go on for several pages.

The simple fact of the matter is that for people over 50, exercise is even more important than for younger people. Using your joints and muscles is the best way to keep them useable. Just as an engine will “freeze up” when it isn’t used, your body needs regular exercise in order to be able to function properly. In short: keep moving if you want to be able to keep moving!

In this program, Shaun T has turned concept on its head. During the Insanity workout participants do long interval of maximum effort exercises followed by short periods of rest. The idea is to have people working out at maximum capacity on every workout, doing as many reps as possible.

Tips On How To Lose Fat And Get Lean

July 30, 2009

A fat loss diet is seems to be a huge lifestyle change so a vast majority of people don’t even try. Why? Because it means that you need to cut out a great deal of the carbohydrates and bad fats in your diet. However, that doesn’t mean that you need to totally switch your lifestyle around. A few changes in your diet are all that is needed to start eating right and losing fat. Here is list of helpful tips to help you on your way to losing unwanted fat and get a lean body that you always wanted.

Just eating until satisfied…It takes your brain to inform your body that you do not need any more food. So slow down because if you eat too fast you develop the habit of overeating.

Making substitutions…This involves making healthier choices in what you eat. Like if you are the type of person that eats a typical breakfast of two eggs, bacon and toast with butter for breakfast; try a breakfast of four egg whites, a piece of lean ham and a slice of whole wheat toast with instead of butter try jam. And try sorbet with whipped cream that is low-fat instead of ice cream and chocolate syrup.

Grilling verses frying…This can cut one hundred calories from your diet daily. A tablespoon of canola oil can contain up to one hundred and twenty calories.

Eliminating your “liquid calories”…These add up fast and raise your insulin levels faster than solid food. These cause your body to store extra fat. So cut out lattes, milk, and cola sodas. Try instead carbonated water, water flushes out fat.

Dressings and condiments…These can add extra and unwanted calories to your diet. Examples: mustard verses mayonnaise, vinaigrette verses ranch.

Protein…Make sure that you break every three hours to get some lean protein plus some before you retire to bed at night. Make sure that there isn’t any carbohydrates.

Supplements…L-Glutamine, this helps in becoming lean plus L-Glutamine seems to stimulate muscle development; Omega 3-CLA-and/or flax seed oil, these supplements help in dropping carbohydrates but allows for maintaining the good fats.

Complex diet…Be careful not to make your diet too complex. This may cause you to give up instead focus on lean protein and cutting out processed sugar.

Switching parts of your diet…Instead of mainly carbohydrates like bread, fruit, pasta switch to skinless chicken, fish, egg whites, and turkey breast.

Frequent meals…to keep the metabolism high eat small meals every three hours instead of three large meals throughout your day.

By following these tips, you will be well on your way to that lean body you always dreamed of. Just remember that when you lose fat there is a risk of losing some of the muscle. Fat lose verses muscle is a tricky balance you must maintain. So by substituting lean protein and cutting out carbohydrates like breads and processed sugar will help in that balance. Also, remember to not make your diet too complex otherwise, you may not stick to it. And don’t forget to eat small meals made up of lean protein throughout your day verses three large meals. Finally drink plenty of water, this helps in flushing out the fat.
