Busting the Most Common Female Weightlifting and Bodybuilding Myths

October 31, 2008

There are many myths that continue to surround weight training and bodybuilding among females. Some of these have hampered most women into trying bodybuilding. Here are some of the most common myths:

• Weight training makes a woman more masculine and bulky. Do not be misled by this common myth. Women do not produce testosterone as men do, therefore, it is impossible for women to increase their muscle sizes by simply carrying some weights. What deters most women from trying weightlifting is the appearance of most female bodybuilders. Remember that these women use anabolic steroids (also known as synthetic testosterone), hence, they tend to look more like males. Women who undergo weight training without anabolic steroids only get leaner muscles and cellulite-free bodies.

• Weight training can make women stiff and muscular. This is far from the truth as weight training increases a woman’s flexibility instead. Dumbbell presses, flexes, and chin-ups stretches all contribute to flexibility and not stiffness.

• Exercising increases a woman’s chest size. Breasts of women are composed of fatty tissues, thus, it is not possible to increase breast size just by simply lifting some weights. In fact, if your body goes under 12% of body fat, your breast size may even decrease. The confusion started because weight training increases the size of a person’s back (not the cup size).

• Weight training would turn fats into muscles. As much as metal cannot be turned into gold, this is also true of fats turning into muscles. Weight training makes you lose fat while developing muscles—these fats do not turn to muscles!

• Stopping weight training could turn muscles into flab. As much as fats don’t become muscles, muscles also do not become fat as soon as you let go of weight training. Remember that fats and muscles are two, separate types of tissues. The reason why people seemingly get fat after giving up on weight training is because most of them also give up on their diets and fitness programs as soon as they stop lifting weights.

• The only suitable exercise for women is cardio exercise and when they do decide to lift weights, they shouldn’t be heavy weights. Cardio exercises only provide fat burning. Once most of the body fat is gone, muscles can be further developed through weightlifting. Muscles respond to resistance training, so weightlifting is great training even for women.

• For as long as you do some exercises, you can eat anything and as much as you want. Not to burst your bubble but this is isn’t true at all. This is only applicable to people who have high metabolic rates or the so-called hardgainers. These people don’t have to exercise just to attain their desired weight or figure. If they don’t eat much, they can either maintain or lose weight. For all other people, the formula is quite simple—the more calories you eat, the more weight you gain.

Women should train hard not just to have a good looking body but also to be healthy and fit. So, go on, lift some weights and discard all inhibitions that you might have regarding weight fitness training.

What Are Walk-In Clinics?

October 31, 2008

Walk-in clinics play an essential role in providing primary health care service.

Walk-in clinic is the common term used in referring to health care service providers. These health care service providers are also called convenient care clinics. The reason for such a regarding these clinics might be the fact that these clinics are usually situated in retail stores, supermarkets, pharmacies and workplaces in strategic areas around the United States. These clinics are easily accessible to the potential patients.

The walk-in clinics treat the most common illnesses and diseases. These convenient care clinics also provide preventive health care services. The common illnesses that are usually treated in walk-in clinics are those that ordinarily occur within the family. These illnesses are cold and flu, sinus infections, allergies, minor burns and rashes, pinkeye, sore throat, headache, head lice, ringworm, warts, sprains and strains, bronchitis, ear infections, and urinary tract infections.

Some walk-in clinics have services for preventive health care. These services are flu or tetanus vaccinations, regular physical examinations for school or work purposes, and even pregnancy tests. These walk-in clinics often advertise the services they provide, on board in front of their clinics or their websites. Patients are advised to call the particular clinic they are intending to consult. The call is to make sure that the health service they need is on offer at that particular clinic.

Treatments at walk-in clinics are generally priced at lower prices than that of costs in regular clinics wherein you need to have appointments with doctors before treating patients. Walk-in patients should know before hand of the price range for the particular treatment he/she needs before the actual consultation is made.

Generally, convenient care clinics accept cash, checks, and even insurance. Make sure that your insurance company honors reimbursement of expenses incurred in a walk-in clinic. Some walk-in clinics list treatments that are covered by insurance.

When an ailment is serious, walk-in clinic consultation is not recommended. The sick should go straight to his/her regular doctor for treatment and the necessary medication. Emergency cases should be treated in an appropriate emergency medical clinic.

The personnel of walk-in clinics are nurse practitioners or physician assistants. Some of these clinics have physicians. The Nurse practitioner staff of a walk-in clinic is a registered nurse. The nurse practitioner does a wide array of health care service. The services of a nurse practitioner include health promotion, patient evaluation, treatment, diagnosis, education, counseling, case management and coordination of care.

Patients treated by advanced practice nurses and primary care physicians have achieved the same results. Physician Assistants who worked under the supervision of a primary care physician are trained professional health service providers. They are tasked to give quality health care to persons availing primary care of walk-in clinics.

Walk-in clinics have an essential role in the overall health care service of the medical sector. Walk-in clinics bring closer to the people who need primary and urgent health care. Literally, these walk-in clinics are situated in places most accessible to everyone.

Walk-in clinics are estimated to increase in number in the days ahead. Almost all sectors of society benefit from these walk-in clinics. Statistics indicate that there is consumer interest consumer in these convenient care clinics.

More than one of three surveyed consumers welcomes the idea of using such walk-in clinics. One in six consumers had actually used said walk-in clinics. There is high interest among the so-called Baby Boomers generation, almost 38 percent. There is least interest among the senior citizens to use such walk-in clinics. The youth sector has the highest interest in using said clinics.

Weight Loss Diets – 3 Things That Boost Your Results

October 30, 2008

No matter how much benefit you hope for from weight loss diets, it never hurts to add a few extra measures that will increase your results.

Choosing some simple additions to the weight loss diets that are popular and described in every major magazine or health and beauty sites on the internet will make the diets doubly effective and will make it easier to stick with the helpful measures long enough to see great results. Almost every successful dieter has made use of one or more of these tips in order to reach their goals. Often, making use of such strategies as walking around the block following the evening meal rather than flopping down in front of the television set will result in an easier weight control regimen.

Water

One of the best ways to boost the success rate of weight loss diets is simply to drink more water. Drinking plenty of water under normal circumstances is a great way to maintain the health of your circulatory system and by extension, your entire body. However, when you are working to eliminate the toxins and dead cells from your body during a period when you are losing weight, extra water will make that process easier on your body. The kidneys won’t have to work so hard and the liver and blood system will also function better, just by adding additional water to your intake each day.

Fiber

Adding additional fiber to an existing weight loss diets plan is a sure way to sneak out extra pounds lost. The body requires using extra calories in order to digest the foods you intake. When you add even a small amount of additional fiber, you are adding digestive time without adding significant amounts of calories. In addition, the fiber helps to encourage proper elimination for better intestinal and colon health. Sprinkle a little bran on your salad for a nutty taste or add it to your low fiber cereal in the morning to boost its staying power.

Exercise

The most effective weight loss diets include other components besides just food choices. Each time you add another dimension to the weight control plan, you increase your chances of successfully reaching your weight goal. Exercise is just such a helpful component. Anyone who has ever looked at a list of calories expended when doing various activities can see the benefits of exercise over a sedentary life style. Choose daily walks or add a stair climbing component to your trip to the office rather than using the elevator. These choices will help to manage weight over the long term.

When you are participating in any of the weight loss diets, it only makes sense to include the extra features that make the weight control easier and more sustainable. The above factors and others will be part of your long term plan to be healthy in body and mind. Choose a healthy and slim lifestyle doesn’t have to be a burden. In fact, it should be selected both on an emotional and a physical level in order to be fully successful. The expectation of success is a fourth factor that is fully as important as the other three in successfully managing your weight levels.

If you have ever grown discouraged at finding just the right Weight Loss Diets and wondered which ones, if any truly are effective, you can gain helpful information and links by visiting http://www.fastweightlossplantips.com.

The Acne Free Diet – Learn How to Eat Your Way to Healthy Skin

October 30, 2008

The debate has raged for years that diet can affect your skin. This article will explain how diet can make a difference in getting you acne free.

One camp says that certain foods like chocolate and sugar will make you break out and another camp says it has no bearing at all on your acne.

So is it possible to become acne free on diet alone? Probably not 100%, but with the proper diet, it is possible to reduce breakout severity and control them better with over the counter solutions.

While this diet may be good for all forms of acne, it is primarily aimed at the most common form called comedonal acne, which is the medical term for whiteheads and blackheads. Comedonal acne occurs when a sebaceous follicle gets plugged with dirt, tiny hairs or bacteria. The result is either a blackhead or a whitehead. The key to preventing comedonal acne is keeping the sebaceous follicle open, and believe it or not, this can be practically controlled by what you eat!

What is the Acne Free Diet?

According to a study at RMIT University, a diet lower in carbohydrates and higher in protein can be the key to clearer skin. Scientists believe that carbs that are high on the Glycemic Index can lead to more breakouts than carbs that have a lower GI.

Here are some carbohydrates that have a lower GI and can help you become acne free:

• Whole grain bread

• Brown rice

• Oatmeal

• Whole wheat pasta

What About Protein?

Lean protein is recommended, as meat high in saturated fats can lead to oily skin and clogged pores. Look for chicken, fish and other lean protein choices versus meats that are heavy in fat. This will also lead to better health overall as well as clearer skin.

Don’t Forget Your Fruits and Veggies

Vegetables are an important part of any diet, and it’s no exception on the acne free diet. Your diet should include plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. These should preferably be choices lower on the Glycemic Index, so you should avoid starches such as potatoes, white rice and very sweet fruits.

Some fruit and vegetable choices may include:

• Apples

• Grapefruit

• Oranges

• Almost all vegetables except “sweet” veggies like corn, pumpkin, potato, etc.

Sugar and Sweets

While it may be hard to forgo sodas and sweets, the payoff can be big in the form of clearer more beautiful skin. Not only is “junk food” bad for your health overall, it can lead to clogging of your pores, which ultimately can lead to whitehead and blackhead (comedonal acne) breakouts. By greatly reducing or eliminating these from your diet, you can go a long way to healthier skin and a healthier you!

While a diet free of junk food and high fat yummies may not sound like the most exciting thing in the world, having clearer skin and a heightened self-esteem is. The acne free diet may not 100% prevent or cure your whiteheads and blackheads, but it will go a long way in reducing it with an awesome side effect of giving you a healthier body.

Learning how to be Acne Free can be a real pain. What works? What?s junk? http://www.skinacneremedytreatmentproduct.com has the answers you?re looking for without all the hype.

Medical Technology and Infertility

October 30, 2008

When a couple gets married and is financially secure (which is easier said than done nowadays with the economy being what it is) they start thinking about having children. Sure, there are some couples who make it a point to never have children, but there are others who dream about finally getting to be parents.

However, sometimes circumstances beyond the couple’s control can lead to infertility. It seems unfair to those couples who think that they have infertility problems – after all, many people are becoming accidentally pregnant each day and are not nearly in as good of a financial situation that the couple who are having trouble conceiving have.

Before the husband immediately places the blame on the wife for infertility problems, it is very important to mention that he, and not she, might be the cause. How is this possible? Well, first of all, a man might be able to maintain an erection, but that does not mean he is able to actually ejaculate properly. After all, that is how the sperm makes its way to the uterus in the first place.

Obviously, a man does not have a microscope with him to figure out his sperm count on his own, so he should be the first one checked for possible infertility. Why? Because the tests that are done to determine a man’s sperm problems are far less invasive or time consuming as opposed the tests that determine conception problems in women.

A couple is considered to have conception problems if, after a year of actively trying to conceive, they are unable to become pregnant. However, this can also apply to women who actually do conceive, but have miscarriages. If either of these scenarios apply to the couple, it is time to go see a doctor who is a specialist in fertility treatment.

The first thing that the doctor will do is schedule a consultation with the couple. During this consultation, the couple should be prepared to answer a myriad of questions about their attempts to conceive. Sometimes, there are not physical factors that actually are affecting the chances of conception. Instead, it might be lifestyle factors.

For example, if one or both parties are frequently stressed out, that extreme stress can affect the endocrine system, which plays a significant role in conception. When the endocrine system is affected, sperm levels can drop, and women can have infrequent menstrual cycles.

However, thanks to the advances in technology, couples who just a couple of decades ago could never have children are now getting that chance. The first option is artificial insemination. If the man’s sperm is not strong enough to make it to the uterus, then this procedure will increase the chances of it doing so.

Or, if the problem involves the woman’s egg not being able to attach itself to the uterus, then that means there is the option of having a surrogate carry the fertilized egg of the couple. So, if you are a couple having trouble conceiving, it is important to not give up hope!

All You Ever Wanted to Know About Liposuction

October 30, 2008

As happy as a person can be with his or her appearance, if they were really “put on the spot” as to what it is that they would really want to change about themselves, it would be their extra fat. Pretty much only athletes are the ones who have no fat, so obviously that leaves fat-free people in the minority.

However, for the rest of the world’s population, there is the possibility of liposuction. This is definitely something that has made its way into popular culture, and there are no signs of the popularity of liposuction ever really slowing down. When you think about liposuction, an immediate image might come to mind. In this image, a Hollywood actress is involved, running down the beach in a bikini. Obviously, it was liposuction that got her body looking so fabulous.

Yes, this procedure is something that many entertainment professionals have gotten. They are, after all, in a business where their success is mostly based upon how good they look, as opposed to actual talent. However, it is important to note that many regular people have had the procedure done as well.

When it comes to the excess fat that people tend to store, men usually store it entirely in their torso. While men can definitely have this procedure done, it is most often performed on women. As for where women store their fat, it is usually in their stomach and thighs.

Fat can build up in these areas in a variety of different ways. First of all, if the person has a diet that is low in fiber and high in fat, the body cannot process all of that excess fat. So, it will start storing the fat in areas of the body. It is actually very similar to how a bear ends up storing fat for hibernation. Only, people obviously do not hibernate.

This brings up the next issue of how a person becomes the right candidate for the procedure. First of all, a person who is extremely overweight cannot think of having this procedure done, because the procedure is only meant to get rid of small amounts of fat at a time.

Thus, the ideal candidate is a person who, despite having a diligent diet and exercise regime, still has a little bit of extra fat that is really harming their self-esteem. The procedure itself involves inserting a long metal tube directly into the fat layer. The tube is actually attached to a motorized device, so this vacuum effect is what sucks the excess fat out.

The procedure itself is done under general anesthetic, is moderately expensive, and a short hospital stay might be required, depending on the area that was worked on. However, the recovery time should only be a week or two. The overall results should be seen immediately, but it is important to note that there is an overall healing process (which includes swelling and bruising) that has to take place before the patient will be able to see the final look.

Can You Avoid Getting Varicose Vein Treatment?

October 30, 2008

The female body is quite a remarkable thing. After all, it is not only designed to live everyday life, it is also designed to give life. As the female body ages, she begins to undergo various changes in both her hormonal and physical health.

Thus, she has to start undergoing various procedures, like a varicose vein treatment. The varicose vein treatment itself can be done in two different ways. For more serious varicose veins, laser technology will be used in order to facilitate better blood flow. These kinds of veins are caused by an excess amount of blood having pooled within them.

In the second kind of varicose vein treatment, sclerotherapy might be used. Specifically, this is a very basic procedure in which a certain kind of medicine is injected into the varicose veins to promote blood flow and reduce swelling. If these veins are not checked, then they might lead to a clot.

However while it is indeed very important to check with your doctor to see if you need varicose vein treatment, wouldn’t it be better if you didn’t get these kinds of large, purple/blue/green veins in the first place? One of the main causes of these kinds of veins is not taking proper care of your legs when pregnant.

This is something that really makes all the difference later on in life, because women who don not take care of their legs while they are pregnant not only sometimes end up with varicose veins, but they also end up with arthritis. Yes, it is very comforting to know that varicose vein treatment is available, but these veins can actually be avoided easily.

For example, if you are the kind of person who really enjoys taking walks, you can by all means continue to take them, but be more mindful than ever of your footwear. Do not wear heels while you walk. Instead, wear comfortable footwear that has built-in support. Also, be sure to rest your legs after your walk by sitting in a comfortable chair with your feet and legs comfortably resting on a footstool. It is very important to make sure that the muscles in your legs do not get exceedingly cramped.

Why are these things that can cause vein problems in pregnant women? As the fetus grows, the female body naturally starts to gain weight. This added weight puts pressure on the legs, which are not just muscle and bone, but also lots of veins. The veins are meant to carry blood to and from the heart.

So, when a woman who is gaining weight moves around, extra pressure is placed on the heart, which in turn starts to force the blood through the veins faster. The veins then start swelling to accommodate the blood, but the blood has trouble getting through.

Obviously, one of the main reasons varicose veins are so annoying is because of their overall appearance. Many women tend to worry more about that than anything else! Well, regardless of the motives (and whether you have been pregnant or not) rest and avoid crossing your legs. These two things alone can really work to your advantage.

The Cure to Insomnia Could be in Your Local Grocery Store

October 30, 2008

Daily habits vary from person to person, but there are some things that each person has in common. People eat, use the facilities, go to sleep. However, sometimes something happens with the human body where the rest factor becomes inhibited.

People who, for months at a time, experience sleepless nights or even just problems staying asleep, are suffering from insomnia. It is odd, but true that insomnia has made its way effortlessly into popular culture. There have been books, plays, movies, and television shows all featuring characters who suffer from this sleep disorder.

Once the person has been diagnosed with insomnia, it is then time to figure out the factors that are actually causing it. For example, if a person is stressed or grieving, an anti-anxiety or anti-depression medication might be prescribed. Or, if the person has a lifestyle in which they tend to spend long hours working or partying, behavioral issues will need to be checked.

Yes, there are definitely many medical ways to treat insomnia, but some of them actually add to the problems. Take, for example, the drug Valium. This is usually just prescribed to people who are suffering from this sleep disorder. However, while it might actually help the person to fall asleep, it can also become addictive.

Believe it or not, there are many different kinds of products available in your local grocery store that not only might be contributing to your sleepless nights, but could actually be used as a drug-free way to soothe you into a good night’s sleep.

Take, for example, the coffee aisle. Many people, before work, or even just as part of their morning routine, have a cup of coffee. Well, those who are not health-conscious to begin with will probably choose regular, instead of decaffeinated coffee. Big mistake.

Why? Because caffeine is actually a stimulant. It can be found in not just coffee, but in tea and soda as well. It can build up in the bloodstream to such an extent that it actually can be the main cause of those sleepless nights. So, be sure to either forgo such drinks altogether, or choose the decaffeinated/diet version.

Right before people go to sleep each night, they tend to want a snack. The most popular kind of snack is cereal. On the surface, it seems harmless enough, right? Well, most all brands contain enough sugar to keep a person up for hours. Plus, to avoid digestion problems and clots, it is very important to wait at least half an hour after eating before going to bed.

So, what kinds of thinks in a grocery store can actually be helpful? The main thing is actually something that has been in use for over a hundred years: Warm milk. All you have to do is take a couple of warm milk and heat it up in your stove (not the microwave, because that causes an unhealthy breakdown of enzymes). If you are lactose intolerant, then try the brand of milk you use already, like rice milk. The warmth of it will relax you, and you’ll be sleeping (preferably for a healthy eight hours) in no time.
